This is a 14-session course (ie 14 x 3 hours) that takes place on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 – 13.00, starting on February 27 2018.
The course covers the basics of making 2-dimensional art, and a wide range of techniques. It is suitable both for total beginners and for people who would like to try new mediums, to review the elements and principles of art and composition and to learn how to create their own original artwork.
The artwork created during this course is small-scale (so that we can include a lot of variety), and while some of it is purely experimental, some will also be worth framing. A sketchbook/scrapbook/art journal, is provided, and printed notes are issued every week, forming a very useful reference for your future years as an independent artist.
The course covers: the elements of art and principles of design, how to come up with good compositions, where to find ideas and inspiration, colour theory, paint mixing, creating textures, and basic drawing skills, and we work with pencil, charcoal and graphite, markers and inks, collage, watercolour and acrylics, all the different kinds of pastels, coloured pencils, gouache, and some printmaking as well.
The next Foundation Course will be a full-length 30-session course, which includes gallery and art store visits and more time for experimentation and creation of a complex artwork. It will start in September 2018 and will run on Tuesday mornings. Places are limited, so please get in touch if you are interested in joining, and please plan on attending the whole course. The course will not run with fewer than 4 people, and the maximum number is 7.
The total cost for the 30-session course is CHF 2100, which can be paid in three instalments of CHF 700: the first before the course starts, the second after the first 8 classes and the third before the last 10 classes.
